Karl Mediz

Vienna 1868 - 1945 Dresden

Karl Mediz was born in Vienna in 1868. After Friedrich von Amerling discovered his artistic talent, Mediz started studying at the Academy of Fine Arts under Sigmund L’Allemand and Christian Griepenkerl, under Wagner and Goltz in Munich, as well as at the private academy Julian in Paris. After moving to Dresden with his wife Emilie Mediz-Pelikan, the artist started being somewhat successful as a portraitist, but he found true recognition after he started being a landscapist. He exhibited at the Vienna “Hagenbund” in 1903, where he was a member until 1912. The death of Emilie Mediz-Pelikan virtually ended his career as an artist. Karl Mediz died in Dresden in 1945.
