Marcel Kammerer

Vienna 1878 - Ottawa, Canada 1959

Kammerer attended Otto Wagner’s architecture class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Together with Otto Schönthal, he was one of Otto Wagner’s closest associates until 1910 and Kammerer and Schönthal worked in Wagner’s studio on building projects such as the Austrian Postal Savings Bank and the Steinhof Church. Kammerer founded his own studio in 1910 and his work was often shown in the leading contemporary art journals (Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration, Kunst and Kunsthandwerk, The Studio, Zeitschrift für bildende Kunst, and many more). In later years Marcel Kammerer devoted himself entirely to painting after taking private lessons with Franz Rumpler.
