Kitty Rix

Wien 1901 - Unknown

Kitty (Katharina) Rix was born in Vienna in 1901. Nothing is known of her training; she presumably learnt her craft from 1920 onwards in the newly founded Workshop School for Ceramics of the renowned Wienerberger Ziegelfabriks- und Baugesellschaft. In 1924 a first sketch is recorded in the model books of the Wiener Werkstätte; she seems to have replaced her elder sister Felice, who worked at the Wiener Werkstätte from 1917 to 1923. In 1925 Kitty Rix took part in the World’s Fair in Paris in the area of ‘German Women’s Art’, and in 1928 she married the architect Paul Tichacek. In 1929-30, Kitty Rix was represented at an exhibition of Wiener Raumkünstler in the Austrian capital. In 1931 she designed the last ceramic pieces for the Wiener Werkstätte. Kitty Rix probably emigrated in the 1930s due to her Jewish faith. The date and place of her death are unknown.
