Anton Lutz

Prambachkirchen 1894 - 1992 Linz

Anton Lutz was born in Prambachkirchen in Upper-Austria in 1843. He attended the kaiserlich königliche Lehrbildungsanstalt from 1909 until 1913, during which time he already started exhibiting works. Together with Franz and Klemens Brosch and Franz Sedlacek, he founded the Linzer artists assembly “MAERZ”. Even artists like Alfred Kubin and Franz von Zülow became members of the group. The influence of the Secession is clearly discernible in early works, but his paintings became more and more abstract, though he never distanced himself from figurative representations. He exhibited his oeuvre in the Künstlerhaus in Vienna and in the gallery Belvedere. Anton Lutz died in Linz in 1992.
