Heinrich Schröder

Krefeld, Germany 1881 - 1942 Innsbruck

Heinrich Schröder was born in Krefeld in Germany in 1881. He attended Universities in Berlin, Weimar and Paris from 1899 to 1903. After his studies, he was sponsored by Dr. Hugo Koller and Broncia Koller-Pinell. In 1905 he moved to Vienna, where he was accepted into Klimt’s artist group, the “Kunstschau”. Especially Schiele and his characteristic views on landscapes shaped the young artist. From 1906 to 1912, Schröder collaborated with Broncia Koller-Pinell regularly. In 1914, Schröder moved to Munich, where he devoted himself to fauvism and German expressionism. In the 1920s and 30s, his works reached a new peak, as he dedicated himself to the “New Objectivity”. But while the Nazi regime was in power, his art was regarded as degenerated. Schröder died in Innsbruck in 1942.
