Artists we present in our gallery in 1010 Vienna

‘There’s no business like art business’: art is alive and dynamic, always mirroring its time while each era is also influenced by its artists. It is sometimes said that art imitates life but often it is the other way around as well. When the ideas of movements like art nouveau are incorporated in everyday objects, for instance, or when artistic impulses are adapted by the current Zeitgeist. Thus, it is very important to us to make art tangible and to contextualize works of art – through our expertise in advising clients and the way we organize exhibitions. The best case scenario is the seamless interweaving of life and art into a rich network of beauty, aesthetics and vitality.

Art Nouveau, Classical Modernism and Contemporary Art

In order to give an integral representation of Austrian art of the last century our gallery in 1010 Vienna features a variety of artists and exhibits. We focus on Viennese art nouveau, particularly on the Wiener Werkstätte, on the multifarious painting and sculpting of the 20th century as well as contemporary art. With this wide-ranging offer, presenting and representing over 150 artists from different epochs and with different styles, we take a special position in the art trade. Time and again painting, sculpting and design connect to each other in lively arrangements and cross-fertilize each other in their richness of forms and colours.

Artists that left their mark on Austrian art

As specialists for Austrian art of the 20th and 21st century we focus on artists who strongly influenced and shaped art nouveau, were affiliated with the Wiener Werkstätte or were active in the time now known as classical modernism. With this background we also engage in Austrian contemporary art which has always been vivid and vanguard. Metaphorically speaking, our program is designed to show the roots and the crown of a tree that has gained international renown through its original mix of tradition and innovation.

In this sense, art of the 21st century builds on art of the last century while steadily developing new branches like artistic movements, philosophies, artistic media or techniques of expression. This development from the roots – art nouveau and classical modernism – to the treetops of contemporary art is precisely what we are passionately interested in and what we consequently want to share with our customers.

From there we take you to the inter- and post-war periods with artists like Artur Nikodem, Oskar Laske, Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel, Carl Moser, or Julie Wolfthorn, going on to modernists such as Friedensreich Hunderwasser, Günter Brus, Joannis Avramidis, Kiki Kogelnik and Bruno Gironcoli. A few living artists like Hubert Schmalix, Thierry Feuz or Thomas Reinhold complete our program.
