Erika Giovanna Klien was born in 1900 in Borgo di Valsugana in Trentino. She is one of the most important artists of Viennese Kinetism. From 1919 to 1925 Klien studied at the Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule with Frank Cizek, Rudolf Larisch and Reinhold Klaus, among others. Under Cizek's direction, Klien worked on architectural studies and the translation of perceptual phenomena into a coherent pictorial language, whereby she was particularly influenced by contemporary avant-garde art. In 1929 the artist artist moved to New York, and in 1938 Klien became a U.S. citizen. Her works are represented in numerous museums both nationally and internationally.
Erika Giovanna Klien died in New York in 1957.
