Karl Plattner
Mals 1919 - 1986 MeranBorn in Mals in South Tyrol in 1919, the painter and fresco artist Karl Plattner initially began an apprenticeship as a painter in 1935. In Brixen, he met Sebastian Fasal, professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and learnt fresco painting from him. His studies at the Berlin Art Academy, which he began in 1943, were interrupted after just six months due to his deployment in the war. It was not until 1946 that Karl Plattner was able to continue his studies in Florence and Milan at the Accademia di Brera. He then travelled between Paris, Brazil, South Tyrol and the south of France and received numerous commissions for frescoes and murals. He is considered one of the most important artistic personalities of the post-war period in South Tyrol. In addition to frescoes, his oeuvre includes an extensive body of paintings and graphic works.
