Osamu Nakajima
Kaijyo, Japan 1937 - 2013 Langenstein, AustriaOsamu Nakajima was born in Kaijyo, Japan, in 1937. In 1962, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tokyo. The sculptor moved to Austria in 1969 and was given Austrian citizenship in 1982. He was honoured with the Alfred-Kubin-Award and the great cultural prize for fine arts of Upper Austria in 2006.
Nakajima developed a strongly geometrical style, characterized by a very concise language of form that challenges the limits of working with marble. A constructive play with surfaces and consciousness of space, as well as the precise choice of materials determine the character and the impact of his works. Osamu Nakajima died in Langenstein, Upper Austria, in 2013.
