Wolfgang Hollegha
1929 1929 in Klagenfurt - 2023Wolfgang Hollegha attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1947-1954 under Josef Dobrowsky. Together with his friends Josef Mikl, Markus Prachensky and Arnulf Rainer, he founded the group around the Galerie nächst St. Stephan in 1955. The artists' association, sponsored by Monsignor Otto Mauer, dedicated a solo exhibition to Hollegha in 1959. This was followed by travels and exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles. In 1964 he participated in Documenta 3 in Kassel and in 1967 in the Biennale in Sao Paulo. In the years 1972-1997 he took on a professorship at the Viennese Academy. Hollegha lived and worked in Vienna and in Rechberg in Styria. There he built a tower-high studio near his farmhouse so that he could incorporate the rich impressions of nature directly into his artworks. Wolfgang Hollegha died in 2023.
