Ty Waltinger
Vienna 1962The aspect of time in Ty Waltinger’s painting culminates in his Time Frescoes, which the artist exhibited at the Biennale in the Palazzo Bembo on the Canale Grande, where in contrary, pictorial processes, he suspends the past and present, making them flow into one another. Onto these pictures, which he created al fresco from 1999 to 2016, rare and mostly very old pigment essences were applied over many years. From 2016 to 2017 the artist, using scalpels and fine tools, worked back into the depths, uncovering again layer upon layer of paint, and thus layer upon layer of time. His goal is to capture ‘real time’ through the exposure of the process of painting over long periods of time.
