Gunter Damisch, one of the most important representatives of contemporary art in Austria, died on the 30th of April 2016. Damisch was a multimedia artist. His individual and open modular image system is substantially based on the concept of transition and metamorphosis. Energetic concentrations and organic natural forms – worlds, paths, flamers – organise a very personal system of a visual world, characterised by creative desire. As part of the second generation of the Austrian artist group „Neue Wilde“ („Wild Youth“), Gunter Damisch’s painting practice of the 1980s and 1990s is determined by a pasty, layered application of paint.
