Traudel Pichler

Mülheim/ Ruhr 1941 - 2002 Vienna

Traudel Pichler was born in Müllheim an der Ruhr in Germany in 1941. She emigrated to the USA with her family in 1948, returning to Germany in 1956. In 1960, Pichler started studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, but moved to Vienna after just three semesters, to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna instead. After graduating, Pichler started travelling and exhibiting all over Austria regularly. In 1969, she was offered a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts. Pichler received many awards and prices during her lifetime, most importantly though, she was given the title of professor by the head of state, to honor her achievements as a teacher, as well as an artist. Traudel Pichler died in 2002.
